Founded in 2005 and supported by the Government of Canada, Windmill Microlending is a non-profit, registered charity that offers low barrier and easily accessible loans to skilled immigrants and refugees so they can obtain the credentials they need to work in Canada. Our clients can borrow up to $15,000 to finance most expenses related to their Canadian licensing.  Skilled immigrants have an interest rate of 5.45%and skilled refugees have 0% interest.
Eligible expenses include:

  • up to 2 year educational program tuition
  • bridging program tuition, books, supplies
  • qualification assessments, licensing exams
  • living expenses and more

The goal of this lending program is to allow immigrants and refugees the opportunity to acquire the education needed to practice their profession in Canada. There must be a correlation between their existing our of country qualifications and designations and the field of study in Canada. Some possible examples include:

  • A nurse can be funded for medical office or community service worker training in Canada
  • An accountant can be funded for accounting bookkeeper or accounting and payroll administrator
  • Any career you have likely has a counterpart in Canada that can be funded!
